In celebration of Black History Month and Selma’s own 40th Anniversary Bridge Crossing Jubilee; Southern Hub presents “Images In Black” an art show and charity auction highlighting outstanding black artists from the Selma community.

The show will open on Monday February 21 and will continue to be open daily 9:00am to 6:00pm through Sunday March 6, 2005. There will be an artists’ reception and silent auction on Saturday February 26 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Artists featured in this show will include:

• Robert Baynes,
• Frank Hardy Sr.,
• Earl Hopkins,
• Charlie “Tin Man” Lucas,
• Sheila Lammie Mitchell,
• Velma Moorer,
• Matthew Morris,
• Annie Page,
• Vernon Spicer,
• Tammy White.

Artists participating in the show have agreed to donate a percentage of the proceeds from works sold in the auction to benefit the Selma Youth Development Center. Selma Youth Development Center (SYDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a 15 year track record of providing educational and character-building opportunities to at-risk young people in the Selma community. SYDC’s current programs include boxing, dance, art and computer technology.

For those who are unable to attend the show and reception Southern Hub will feature selected works from each artist on this website.

Southern Hub is Selma, Alabama’s first internet coffeehouse. Our business is computers but because we love Selma and its many undiscovered talents and treasures we provide a venue where local artists can show their work. Please stop by when you’re in the neighborhood for coffee and conversation.
